Autumn produce – you are what you eat!

A new season BRINGS PLENTY

It's that transitional time of year, between greasy skin from too much sunscreen in Summer, to dry and parched skin from too much dryness in Winter (or vice versa in the northern hemisphere)…. leaving blocked pores and dull skin.  One of the key things you can do to help your confused skin is to start or continue your exfoliation routine.  A gentle face scrub will lift away tired skin cells, cleanse impurities, and stimulate cell regeneration.  But that’s not all we can do to make our faces ah-mazing.  Autumn is the official harvest season and freshness abounds at your local Grower’s Market.  Aim to get back in touch with the seasons, to buy produce at it’s best, indulge your senses and rediscover the taste of fresh – you will certainly be doing your skin and overall health a favour!  We all know there are benefits of eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables. This study by University College London found 7 or more servings of fruit and veggies per day reduced the risk of preterm death by 42 %, including reducing the risk from cancer by 25 % and of cardiovascular disease by 31 %.  That’s enough to have us at Saturday’s market with a basket over our arm!

As the adage goes ‘you are what you eat’, so get stuck in to these goodies that are in season right now and full of awesomeness for your skin.  They’ll provide a plethora of essential vitamin and minerals, and plant compounds called phytonutrients like carotenoids (that turn into the powerful antioxidant, vitamin A), phenolics (that neutralize free radicals), and flavonoids (that help repair sun damage).  Click here for what constitutes a serving and ideas on how to re-fresh your meals and snacks.
